On 20th - 21st March 2007, III annual PWEA conference "Wind energy market in Poland" was held in Warsaw.


Honorary patronage over the conference was assumed by Minister of Economy, Mr. Waldemar Pawlak, Minister of Environment, prof. Maciej Nowicki and Danish Ambassador to Poland, Hans Michael Kofoed-Hansen. Among the invited guests and speakeres were: Secretary of State in Ministry of Environment, Stanisław Gawłowski, Undersecretary of State in Ministry of Environment and Chief Nature Conservator, dr Maciej Trzeciak, Deputy Director in Department of Energy in Ministry of Economy, Mr. Zbigniew Kamieński, President of Social Energy Consultancy Council, prof. Krzysztof Żmijewski, European Coordinator in the Field of Energy (DG TREN), prof. Władysław Mielczarski , European Wind Energy Association CEO, Mr. Christian Kjaer and Garrad Hassan and Partners Limited CEO, dr Adrew Garrad.

During a two-day meeting, plenary session "Politics and Market", together with six topic-dedicated panels (Environment, Technology and IT, Infrastructure, Services for Sector, Economy and Finances, Planning) took place. Conference gathered the record number of attendees - over 450! It only confirms a fast growing pace of market development and huge interest in Polish market from investors. During the plenary session, the first speech was given by Mr. Jarosław Mroczek, President of Polish Wind Energy Association, who has opened the conference. Following speakers were: Mr. Stanisław Gawłowski, representative of Ministry of Environment, prof. Władysław Mielczarski, dr Andrew Garrad, Mr. Christian Kjaer and Mr. Zbigniew Kamieński. Representatives of government administration expressed the will for development of renewable energy sources in Poland, especially concerning wind energy sector, which is the development leader in the field of renewables. Dynamics of wind energy industry and markets development, both Europe and worldwide, fundamentally contributes to Polish government overlook change on this energy sector.

During the plenary session, social campaign "The Countdown" has been launched. At the moment of campaign start, it's website www.wielkieodliczanie.pl also came up online. Campaign is aimed on influencing the opinion of decision makers and politicians to transpose the provisions of the new EU Directive and to implement the ambitious and effective action plan for RES development in Poland, as well as on increasing the interest and awareness of the society concerning renewable energy sources and convincing the society to the ecological and socio - economic benefits stemming from renewables use.

During the plenary session coffee break, press conference with the participation of Mr. Stanisław Gawłowski, dr Maciej Trzeciak, Mr. Zbigniew Kamieński, prof. Władysław Mielczarski and Association President, Mr. Jarosław Mroczek was held in the conference Press Center. Administration representatives was answering for more than hour for questions concerning Polish wind sector development, government plans and the role which should be played by the government in this process.

During "Environment" panel, in the second conference day, the final version of guidelines regarding monitoring of wind turbines influence on birds was presented. Polish Wind Energy Association has been working on the document for more than year, together with Polish Bird Protection Association and group of experts, is the good practices set in a field of searching for new locations and pre- and afterinvestment monitoring conducting by the investors and developers interested in on-shore projects realizations.

3rd Annual conference was also a opportunity to conduct less formal meetings. On 10th of March, PWEA members was attending the Members' Reception, organized due to the still growing number of members. On the first conference day evening, in the Porczyńscy Gallery in Warsaw, Gala Dinner took place - a festive meeting, where conference attendees, surrounded by the pieces of art, had opportunity to exchange their experiences and establish new contacts.
